Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

“If you’re nothing without the suit, then you shouldn’t have it.”

What’s it about?

A story of a hard working family man who gets his life ruined by a 15 year old kid.

Who’s in it?

Tom Holland, Tony Stark, Aunt May (More like Aunt May I?) played by Marisa Tomei (More like Marisa Tomei I?), Childish Gambino, a bunch of millennials and Michael Keaton as Batman. I mean Birdman. I mean Vulture… man?

Why should I watch it?

+ Nice throwback to the 60s cartoon
+ Home video was amazing
+ Tom Holland is MY Spider-Man
+ He’s excited by everything, very enthusiastic
+ He’s a great Peter Parker too, he’s just a regular kid
+ Balancing school life and saving his neighbourhood
+ His acting when he gets stuck was fucking powerful man
+ A Marvel movie with a great villain? Say whaaaaaat
+ Liked how you can empathise with him to a certain point
+ And he’s fucking scary, you don’t wanna cross him
+ Cool how Spider-Man and Vulture have some things in common, two little guys being overlooked by the big guys
+ Explains how they avoid being on The Avengers radar by being low key like Tom Hiddlestone
+ Unexpected twist and turns, literally the whole cinema gasped
+ Looks like there’s three Shockers in this movie
+ *winks knowingly*
+ Love the relationship between Tony Stark and Peter Parker
+ He kinda sees himself in Peter
+ He also wasn’t in it as much, he was sprinkled to help Peter’s character arc
+ This movie is just HILARIOUS
+ Jacob Batalon as Peter’s friend and Martin Starr as Peter’s teacher were hilarious
+ Captain America and awkward school  news videos were hilarious
+ Even Karen as Spider-Man’s Siri was hilarious
+ Hacking into his suit was like playing Spider-Man the video game and using cheat codes to unlock all the combo moves
+ Batman-esque interrogation scene
+ Closest thing to Deadpool and Daredevil
+ Deadpool in the sense of funny comments while fighting and some self awareness
+ Daredevil in the sense of scale, he’s just patrolling his block
+ Last end credit was disappointing but in a good way
+ You’ll know what I mean
+ Explains the little things, how New York buildings aren’t covered in webs and what happens when there’s no buildings nearby
+ Ending was perfect
+ Looooooads of MCU easter eggs

Why shouldn’t I watch it?

– This smart Spidey suit might be a bit OP
– Spider-Man, Spider-man, does whatever his Spider-Man suit can
– Can’t believe Tony Stark is running unpaid internships
– The list of villains created by Tony Stark continues
– They took our jeeeeeeeeeerbs!
– They should make an Aunt May spinoff where she just gets hit on for 2 hours
– See Andrew Garfield, that’s how you save a falling girl
– How can you have homecoming in the title and only show us 5 mins of homecoming scenes? 3/10. Not fresh

*Comment contains spoilers*
– Fathers of Peter’s friends really don’t like him, do they?

Anything else?

This marriage between Marvel and Sony has given us a beautiful baby. The movie was a ton of fun, had a great time watching it. Crazy how well this movie fits in the MCU, it doesn’t feel like it’s added on. The stakes are personal, the villain doesn’t wanna destroy the world. He’s just looking after his family. Vin Diesel knows how it is. It also uses something we overlooked,  who cleans up after the Avengers?
I larb this movie and I think you’ll larb it too.

9/10

  3. I’m glad that you enjoyed it. I did as well. It was a real great standalone MCU that didn’t get bogged down in expanding its superhero universe. Plus, Holland’s was great in the film.

      1. I really liked it! THIS is the Spider-Man I’ve always wanted (and deserved) and I’m happy with Holland’s portrayal. I also laughed A LOT, which I wasn’t expecting! Can’t wait to see what’s next for our favorite neighborhood hero 🙂
