Lars and the Real Girl (2007)

“Bianca’s in town for a reason.”

What’s it about?

Classic love tale of boy meets anatomically correct sex doll, anatomically correct sex doll meets boy. Come on, guys. You know how the story goes.

Who’s in it?

Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer, Ron Swanson’s first ex wife, the original city planner of Pawnee, Indiana and a sex doll with better acting than Cara Delavigne.

Why should I watch it?

+ Don’t think I’ve seen this side of Ryan Gosling before
+ Playing a nice, quiet church going boy with a gentle soul
+ Oh, and he’s socially awkward as fuck, dude does not know how to act around people
+ He’s a bit like if Sheldon Cooper and Michael Cera had awkward sex and had a baby that didn’t see sunlight until he was 27 years old
+ Mighty strong performance fro Ryan Gosling though, guy can act
+ As Big Bang Theory fans know, social awkwardness makes good comedy
+ Like Her, the plot seems ridiculous but interesting
+ Also, the mixture of emotions and quirkiness manages to pull it off
+ Really loved Emily Mortimer in this one too
+ She’s just a fucking nice person who delivered a couple of powerful lines
+ Bianca has got more talents than Manny from Swiss Army Man
+ She seems like the perfect woman
+ Good with kids, a part time model, elected in a school board and volunteers at a hospital
+ And most importantly, she doesn’t talk back
+ JK guys
+ Is your name Article 50? cos you just got triggered
+ Make Brexit joke… Check
+ There’s no more stigma of meeting people on the internet, right?
+ Bear CPR scene? Ryan Gosling you smooth bastard
+ Fucking awesome seeing a community so accepting and understanding
+ Imagine how great it would be if everyone is like that, huh

Why shouldn’t I watch it?

– Hey, I’m better at bowling than Ryan Gosling
– Oh yeah, used to be a thing
– If you’re allergic to latex

Anything else?

It’s basically Her mashed together with A Monster Calls. But instead of a massive talking tree, it’s… it’s a… it’s a sex doll. People have different ways of dealing with their shit, right? If it gives him self confidence to talk and connect with people, why the fuck not. Let’s go out there and heal the world with openness and acceptance, guys. This might turn out to be the best film you’ve never heard of. Well, maybe apart from Short Term 12.

Oh yeah, for the people out there who’s curious about what site he went on, for.. you know, research… it’s Thank me later.

      1. Oh HEY πŸ™‚

I’m good! Living the life in NZ, it’s a lot of fun! I’m in Queenstown, the “adventure capital of the world” – a place where adults can be big kids all year round.

I watched Drive last night, I really like him, and you’re right, Lars was a completely different movie to the sorta stuff he does today.

Full disclosure, I wasn’t that big a fan of Drive. *Outrage intensifies*

      3. It is a very, very patient movie. I watched it with my Dad many moons ago and like an hour in he was like: “… when will the fighting and killing be?”

        It’s very artsy.
