“Brian would know what to do.”
What’s it about?
A group of dudes drive fast cars in an attempt to save the world. Yes, that’s what the last seven were about too.
Who’s in it?
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, otherwise known as the love of my life, Vin Diesel (seriously, who names a kid that?), Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Charlize Theron (armless chick in Mad Max), Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel (Khaleshi’s bitch in GoT), Kurt Russel and Scott Eastwood.
Why should I watch it?
+ The Rock’s in it, enough said
+ It’s way more watchable than the past 7 have been
+ Jason Statham acting along side a baby is top notch entertainment
+ The acting’s not that bad
+ Tyrese has pretty good banter – ‘You’re Blanta, black santa.’
+ There’s pretty sick automobile acrobatics
+ The stunts aren’t disastrous
+ Helen Mirren’s cockney accent is A+ comedy
+ Soundtrack was decent-ish
+ Charlize Theron is a badass super villain
+ The action scenes are handled comfortably
+ Statham and Johnson’s rivalry is funny AF
+ Everyone is super ripped
+ The girls are pretty hot too
+ The scenery is epic
+ #SquadGoals
+ Dwayne Johnson calling Taylor Swift ‘Tay Tay’ is gold
+ If you drink every time ‘family’ is said, you’ll be absolutely wasted in no time at all
+ Did I mention? The Rock’s in it
Why shouldn’t I watch it?
– The pace is confusing
– As is the plot
– Scene changes are clumsy
– Many of the characters are forgetten in the heat of the action
– Talking of which, pretty much everyone gets sidelined in favour of Johnson
– The co-hero thing they’ve got going on really doesn’t work
– Helen Mirren seems like an add-on
– The lack of logic is painful
– There’s just too much going on
– It is way too fucking long, 136 minutes to be exact
Anything else?
Overall, the film isn’t as bad as it could have been, but it seems as if the writers have tried way too hard to prove themselves after having to write Paul Walker out. This film wants to please everyone; a fact that has leaked into every scene, giving the film a weighty feeling that no one wants or needs.
6/10

Thanks, I hope you enjoy it. It’s worth it for the baby scenes alone.

Yeah, I have to admit, I expected it to be a lot worse than it was, I was pleasantly surprised. Enjoy 😊

The guy at the cinema sent my partner and i into the wrong cinema theatre when he took our tickets: we thought we were going to watch ‘their finest’ and realised we about to watch this instead. It sounds like a good action movie and very entertaining but not my thing at all. Great review though 😊

The rating implies a mediocre film, but I’ll still see it because of the ensemble cast, and since I’ve seen all the others, so let’s see what happens to these characters next.

It really depends on whether you’re a F&F fan. If you are then you’ll really enjoy it, but if you’re seeing it as a lone wolf type film with little context, it is, as you say ‘mediocre’.

I’ll probably like it just because it has actors I like and most likely the action that makes it exciting. And, because I’ve followed the series, although it isn’t as if all the movies in the series necessarily tied in together and had a strong cohesive story to begin with.

This series has a huge tank of gas, pardon the pun.

It’s the best one I could think of to describe the franchise.
