Like Crazy (2011)

“Because it’s the halves that halve you in half.”

What’s it about?

A love story between an American guy and a British girl, and how the Atlantic Ocean is their least favourite body of water.

Who’s in it?

Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones. And Jennifer Lawrence.

Why should I watch it?

+ Excellent acting from the two main characters
+ The relationship feels very real, people will definitely be able to relate to them
+ Felicity Jones is straight up lovable, nice smile too by the way
+ Movie sells their relationship right off the bat
+ And that’s why you feel terrible watching them apart from each other
+ Make you root for them, even if you don’t believe in soul mates
+ Timing is an absolute bitch
+ It’s just heartbreaking watching them settle with other people, knowing they could be much happier
+ Great time transition shots, done very creatively
+ Even has a pretty cool bed montage
+ Doesn’t conform to the typical romantic movies
+ For example, the people they settle with would normally be not the nicest people, maybe even cheater etc.
+ So we’d all be like, “OMG, these two have to get back together! They belong together!” *sad emoji* *sad emoji*
+ But this movie doesn’t do that and it doesn’t need to
+ The people they settle with are actually quite nice
+ Like the symbolism of the chair and the bracelet, thought that was a nice touch
+ Wait, Jennifer Lawrence is in this too? *edits Who’s in it? section*
+ Glenfiddich, I like the way you drink
+ Sad sad sad ending

Why shouldn’t I watch it?

–Ā Remind me to never mess with immigration, they don’t play around
– But hey, at least it does the British tourism good
–Ā You don’t go through your partner’s phone man
– Know how to make a girl break up with you? Propose after 6 months
– This guy is probably the reason why divorce rates are high

Anything else?

Couldn’t believe it when I first read about Anton Yelchin. Still can’t. He always brings something that makes the characters he plays likeable and I really enjoyed watching him go to work. I even watched Odd Thomas because he was in it.Ā And now 52% of the UK have decided to leave the EU. So yeah, not the best week to be honest.

Oh, the film is awesome. Definitely go see it. It’s like a much better version of Love, Rosie with some 500 Days of Summer and Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind vibe.

7/10

  1. Hmm, this movie looks interesting. Doesn’t feel good that I haven’t watch it since I’ve basically watched every romantic movie out there. Hate that the UK voted for leaving… I often travel to London (my sister lives there) and now it will be more difficult, ah very very sad. Also horrible that Anton is no more, such a talented boy šŸ˜¦

  3. Cool review, man. You said the movie had some 500 Days of Summer vibe. I’m off to hunt it down. Yes. You’re not the only one with a ‘bothers on obsession’ liking for 500 Days of Summer.
