“Wait, I’m sorry. You’re dating your computer?”
What’s it about?
Feeling shitty after a divorce, Theodore buys an artificial intelligent operating system named Samantha. He gets more than he bargained for and they build a certain emotional connection. (Wink wink)
Who’s in it?
Joaquin Phoenix, the lovely voice of Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams and my second favourite Mara, Rooney Mara.
Why should I watch it?
+ Phoenix gave a great performance with this complex character he was given
+ Johansson’s voice acting was on point, giving a three dimensional personality to an OS
+ She was adorable, playful and pretty funny with a very positive outlook and a sense of wonder
+ The premise sounds a bit silly on paper but the movie was cleverly written
+ It doesn’t feel like a man falling in love with his computer but it felt almost like a permanent long distance relationship instead
+ Love story was refreshingly original
+ As you would expect, it touches on deeper topics like the meaning of humanity
+ The cursing video game kid will crack you up
+ Small role for Olivia Wilde, Angela from Mr. Robot and Chris Pratt (before he took on dinosaurs and saved our galaxy)
+ That Moon Song was so good
+ Apparently moustaches are the future man buns
Why shouldn’t I watch it?
– Ending leaves some questions and confusion
– You won’t look at Siri the same way again
– Also, had to say this, who goes to the beach wearing a shirt and trousers? Dress appropriately man!
Anything else?
This movie might be sci-fi but it looks like a realistic direction of where we could be headed. You know, with technology and the disconnect caused by social media. Paying other people to write personal letters as/for us and having SexyKitten from a chat room to keep us company at night doesn’t sound too far off. If you want bonus laughter, you should watch the SNL parody video with Jonah Hill called Me. It is hilarious.

I liked this movie and as usual Phoenix is the man–a good performance.

This is one of my favorite movies, actually. My film teacher hates it, but I hate almost every movie he likes so I guess our tastes are just incompatible, ha.
I, like you, thought ‘that sounds silly and a bit ridiculous’ when I first heard of it, but when I saw it – in theatres I might add – I ended up sobbing in public not because it’s necessarily sad or unexpected, but rather it manages to make you really feel it in a way I never expected.

Aha different strokes for different folks I guess. How can you not like this movie though?! Aha really? Whoa, powerful stuff.

I remember watching this movie when it came out and I was a little frightened by the main character, very weird I know… đŸ˜€

A bitter-sweet movie. I also particularly enjoyed taking in all this vision of the future, e.g, workplace arrangements, buildings. Great post.

I adore this movie. It had everything for me: original and futuristic storyline, the fact that it questions the way we live our lives now, emotion, humour… and Scarlett Johansson of course. Epic. You summed it up pretty much!

Me too! Really didn’t think I would love it this much from the premise. Thanks for visiting!

This movie impressed me so freaking much. It is for sure one of MUST SEE movies and I can not believe I was even considering not going to see it in the cinema.

The premise sounds soooo silly but holy shit, the movie is really well done. How can a relationship with an OS and a man be better than most Rom-Com these days.

Exactly, when I heard what the movie is about I was like thank you, but I think I pass and I am happy I have not. Hahahaha exactly, best rom-com of the decade? One of them for sure cause I can not think od another that was this good đŸ˜€

Scarlett Johansson is just so loveable in this! How she sees the world and just the energy. Gotta admit, my favourite romantic movie is still 500 Days of Summer. Love that movie too much. Think there’s a Tom in everyone of us.

Yeah and she is sexy even without being seen, like who else is able to do that? To completely get you with just their voice. Very few people can do that. I do not think I have a fave rom com like that. My fave horror is Shining that much I know đŸ˜€

Right! Confession time, I haven’t seen The Shining yet…

Hahahah I know that feeling all too well. And specially when there are not only movies that I simply must watch, but also so many great TV shows as well.

Yeah if you want to have a life and watch eveything it is simply impossible. The only way that would work would be if watching movies and tv shows was my job haha
