Grandma (2015)

“I always liked women, I just didn’t like myself.”

What’s it about?

A grandmother spends some quality time with her granddaughter by basically starting a Kickstarter for her abortion.

Who’s in it?

Lily Tomlin, Julia Garner, Judy Greer, Harold without Kumar, Sophia from Orange is the New Black and that guy from Paper Towns.

Why should I watch it?

+ Lily Tomlin playing a very witty and very harsh grandma
+ Sam Elliot in an emotional scene
+ Julia Garner and her facial expressions
+ funny at times, touching at times
+ Probably the most modern family I’ve seen in a movie
+Love comedies that takes place in one day
+ Movie is short and sweet

Why shouldn’t I watch it?

– If you don’t believe in equality
– If you’re pro-life

Anything Else?

It takes a comedy theme but places a debated subject matter in the centre. It’s kinda like Due Date, a road trip trying to make it on time somewhere, but with the complete opposite end result. Instead of someone giving birth, it’s someone wanting an abortion. Go see this movie, you might just enjoy it.

  1. Hey, great review! I loved this movie too- Lily Tomlin and Julia Garner played off each other so well. I’d also throw in Obvious Child (2014) under ‘you might also like’- a comedy similarly unafraid to tackle the subject of abortion head-on.

    1. Got around to watching it this week, I liked it! It’s definitely on my review list. Found the main character hilarious, just clocked she’s Jean Ralphio’s sister from Parks and Rec.
