Spotlight (2015)

“If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to abuse them. That’s the truth of it.”

What’s it about?

It’s about the true story of how a team at The Boston Globe decided to take on the Catholic Church. Investigating accusations of priest sexually abusing children and using their collars as ‘get out of jail free cards’.

Who’s in it?

The Hulk, Birdman, Rachel McAdams and Liev Schreiber.

Why should I watch it?

+ Terrific performances from everybody
+ Well written and directed
+ An example of good journalism
+ Important subject matter

Why shouldn’t I watch it?

– Requires your full attention
– If you’re a Catholic priest
– Might need a shower after hearing victim’s interviews

Anything else?

Horrifying story of people taking advantage of their position/power and kids in their innocent state. We shouldn’t let faith blind us from doing the right thing. So yeah, bit of a downer if you’re watching after Sunday Mass.
